we represent about 1000 workers in the state of virginia and also west virginia. a lot of our guys make a living by repairing buildings and maintaining power plants and also constructing these epa required devices that take out the pollutants. we recognize the need to keep the air claims and we feel like these requirements are going to be too strenuous on on the owners that have put billions of dollars into these plants to clean them up as much as they can to this point. technology is starting to catch up with the part of cool that we haven't been able to figure out yet the carbon capture and sequestration. we do know that they it can be done but right now, we know that coal was her greatest natural resource and we can't just shove it off to the side at this point. we are the saudi arabia of coal and again there are a lot of things we can do but these owners are going to need more time to bring their plants into compliance but they're also going to need to have a little bit of help from you guys and allowing them to come up with these plans that will bring sequest

so look at these numbers in virginia, the last time virginia elected a governor, it was 2009. this was the electorate that turned out that year. republicans, 37%, democrats, 33. so that was the off-year election, the last time they elected the governor where they had an advantage of four points, in 2012, it was a different story. it was a presidential election year, you got more people turning out. when you get more people turning out the electorate gets more democratic, the republicans were 32% that year, the democrats 39, so that was a seven-point democratic advantage in terms of just who turned out to vote in virginia. republicans look at a history like that and it is a pretty consistent history. and it is not hard to see them hoping that the electorate doesn't look like a presidential year. they want a smaller turnout and a more republican turnout. they want the electorate to look like the last time they elected a governor, one of these odd, off year elections. well, look at the turnout last night, it was just slightly more independent than it was by 2012, by a hair, by on

so, in virginia, heading into tomorrow's big statewide race, the chairman of the virginia republican party did an interview with politico this weekend, in which he just blatantly prayed that people don't turn out to vote in his state. it's the republicans' only hope to get ken cuccinelli into the governor's mansion, is if voter turnout is really, really low.
